Liturgical Calendar

Calendar of the Christian Year

The principal feasts, red-letter holy days, and national observances kept across the Ordinariate of Saint George.

The Christian Year consists of two cycles of holy days — the Paschal Cycle, which follows the lunar calendar from Lent through Eastertide, and the Incarnation Cycle, which follows the solar calendar from Advent through Epiphany. These feasts are observed throughout the chaplaincy in keeping with the Book of Common Prayer of the Anglican Province of North America.

Days of Discipline, Denial, and Special Prayer

Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are traditionally observed as days of special devotion and total abstinence. The weekdays of Lent and every Friday outside the twelve days of Christmas and the fifty days of Eastertide are encouraged as days of fasting. Ember Days are set aside for prayers for those called to Holy Orders; Rogation Days, the three days preceding Ascension Day, are devoted to asking God's blessing on labour and the land.

"Praesens Inter Servientes" — Present among those who serve.
